All models are available with an electric assist hub motor which assists pedaling to give more ability to accelerate a heavy load and get up a hill.

MSP uses Heinzmann front-wheel hub motors. These gear reduced hub motors utilize high quality rare earth magnets in the high dynamic, brushed disc motor. A throttle on the handlebar allows the operator to control the amount of power added. Two large batteries are housed below the cab body on the frame. The 24-volt electrical power supply is separate from the 12-volt lighting system.

MSP's three-wheeled vehicles equipped with these motors are within the federal guidelines for electric assist bicycles and are considered power-assist electric bicycles.

Heinzmann electric assist motors are easily added to existing pedicabs. Many customers order their pedicabs with a battery rack installed in the frame ($100 option) so that they may choose to add the electric motor assist at a later date. The cost of the the electric assist package ranges from $1040 to $1470, depending on configuration.
